Our solution

To solve the problem of textile waste, all over the world there are developing a number of initiatives within the sector of textile industry which aim to reduce the negative impact on the environment and the community. One such measure is the recycling of textiles. Remember, 90% of textile waste can be reused, recovered and recycled.

Estimates and experience show that about 8.5 kg of waste textiles per capita on annual level. Textile waste can be re-used, used as valuable material or as fuel. 68% of textile waste ends up in the other, mixed waste deposited on landfill waste and 32% is covered by the collection of clothes.

We believe that the collecting, sorting and recycling of textiles has many positive effects:

  • reduced need for landfill disposal, which directly affects the climate change (e.g., woolen clothing does not disintegrate, but produces methane, which contributes to global warming);
  • reduced the need for the production of fabrics
  • having in mind that textiles are collected, sorted and distributed mostly locally, reducing the impact on environmental pollution due to limited transportation;
  • less burden on household budgets due to the less expensive textile products and clothing.

100 kg of textiles collected consists of: 1-3 kg of used clothing of high quality (good for the store sale, top grade) 10-20 kg of the average quality of used clothing 10-30 kg of used clothing suitable for donation to developing countries 25 kg for the production of fibers for further production 25 kg raw material for energy.

Most people are willing to donate their used clothing. In the process of cooperative Humana Nova, used clothing will be collected primarily in the northwestern Croatia. Gathered used clothing will be sorted in a production facility of the cooperative, according to various categories:

  • clean and whole clothing will be forwarded to the resale at affordable prices in the greenware store Čakovec;
  • clean and partially whole clothing will be forwarded to the sewers the refinement, then the greenware store;
  • incomplete clean clothes shall be used in the manufacture of new products - patchwork blankets, purses, clothing, etc. which you can buy on Small shops Čakovec and Koprivnica;
  • worn and stained clothing will be recycled as the industrial napkins. Buttons, zippers, etc. will be removed and used again;
  • unusable textiles and waste will be passed on to recycling companies.
